From the President's Desk

Declaration Foundation
By Dr. Richard Ferrier, President

November 7, 2002

Fellow Declarationists,

Two days ago we Americans exercised our right to vote. It is a precious right, grounded in our very being as rational, self-governing creatures, made in the image and likeness of God.

Now the votes have been counted. The Republican Party has won control of both houses of Congress, and there is a Republican in the White House. This is a party pledged in its platform to the defense of life and liberty. It is time for it to act on that pledge.

No more excuses!

We will see if more innocent lives are saved, or if the culture of death makes yet more incremental advances. No more excuses. We will see whether marriage law emerges under even graver threat than it is now, or whether the nation begins to make a return to sanity on marriage and the family. No more excuses. We will see if there is more or less respect for the property and earnings of individuals who have a Declaration Right to the "Pursuit of Happiness." No more excuses. We will see if race preferences under the soothing names of affirmative action are ended or extended. No more excuses.

The Declaration Foundation is not affiliated with the Republican Party, and it does not support its every action and leader. In Colorado, for example, the GOP resisted very strongly the "English for the Children" initiative and the work of Ron Unz. DF, on the other hand, was friendly to Unz and publicized that issue, since we thought it in accord with Declaration Principles. Ditto the work of Ward Connerly in trying to end race preferences in FLA, though Gov. Bush and the state GOP thwarted that effort.

We are non-partisan. But any time a party does promise Declarationist policies, we have a right and a duty to call on it to practice what it preaches.

That time has come for Speaker Hastert, Majority Leader Lott, and President Bush.

Let's ask them to keep their word.

Dr. Richard Ferrier
President
